there are a few candy stores around here that tries to sell comics. over the last few years most of them stopped. actually all magazines are so down and out. i recently went to a store that had tons of comics and magazines. they are almost all gone except for porno and star gossip. and they just raised the daily news from 50 cents to 75 cents.

Ahh the old Magazine/book/comic aisle in the old supermarkiet.
Thats where I gots my first LOBO comic.

    Ahhh the memories.

Can recall several years of my young childhood spent on that aisle.
My parentals would dump me there while they went shoppin so I got to read all the comics and magazines.

They actuallly forgot me there a few times.

I survived on the free snacks cart lady.

    memories..

Yeah...price doesn't help. When I was a kid it was nothing for my grandparents to spend 35 cents each on comics....I could easily go home with 3 or 4 at a time....
On a side note...just did the math...and in the last 30 years comics have risen in price by 1040%.....in comparison, gas has increased by about 200% and milk has increased about 50%.....So, were comics being sold for too little in 1980? if so, they must have been losing money on printing and everything else....or, they are really screwing us these days, or overpaying their writers and artists.....

GOOD POINTS. ALL COMICS, MAGAZINES, AND NEWSPAPERS HAVE SUFFERED AT THE HANDS OF THE INTERNET. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY COMICS ARTISTS AND WRITERS. UNLESS YOUR CONSIDERED A TOP NOTCH WRITER/ARTIST, THE PAY IS STILL NOT THAT GREAT. HAVE YOU SEEN SOME OF THE ART IN ABOUT 80% OF MARVEL COMICS?? ITS CRAP...THOSE GUYS DON'T GET PAID MUCH. ALSO, ALOT OF INTERNS DO WORK ON COMICS AND DON'T GET PAID AT ALL. THIS ONE DUDE INTERNED AT MARVEL FOR 3 MONTHS....AND HE GOT THE BOOT. THEN ANOTHER ONE COMES IN...THEY GET THE BOOT.

COMIC SALES ARE DOWN TREMENDESLY....THE BIG MONEY COMES FROM MOVIES, CARTOONS, MERCH....AND DON'T FORGET THE COMICS THAT GETS OVER ORDERED BY THE STORES. UNLESS A BOOK IS VERY LATE THERE ARE NO RETURNS. ONE THING THAT DOES HURT THE COMPANIES ARE THE PRICES OF PAPER GOIN' UP....I WISH I COULD SEE THAT STAT. OH, AND ADVERTISMENT IN BOOKS HAS DROPPED BIG TIME....SO THEY LOSE OUT ON THAT.

SO THERE ARE FACTORS WHY SOMETIMES A PRICE WILL GO UP.

LET ME CHECK MY MEMORY BACK TO 1980 WHEN I WAS 15.....A SLICE OF PIZZA WAS 75 CENTS....TODAY ITS 225-250.
CHINESE LUNCH SPECIAL WAS ABOUT 200-250...TODAY ITS OVER 5 BUCKS AND THE PORTIONS HAVE GOTTEN SMALLER.
MAD MAGAZINE WAS 50 CENTS...TODAY ITS 4.99 AND IT HAS ADS IN IT, SOMETHING MAD DIDN'T DO UNTIL ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO.
CUP OF COFFE AND A BUTTERED ROLL WAS 65 CENTS....TODAY YOU CAN'T GET A COFFE FOR UNDER A BUCK.

IN COMPARISON IF WE DO THE MATH FROM 1950-1980 YOU'LL SEE HOW MUCH LOWER THE DIFFENCE WOULD BE.

ALL RIGHT I'M RAMBLIN' NOW ABOUT THE ECONOMY...BUT THATS A WHOLE NUTHER WAR

Holy crap - that's a HUGE increase. That's crazy how out of proportion that is. Makes me sad. I actually just read a few ultraverse titles for the ultraverse special podcast that we did and I was even sad when I read the price on those comes (I think it was like $1.50 or something). I wonder how much higher the industry can go before everyone says no. I hope we don't ever encounter that.

Well, I have said for a few years now that for the price of two comics that will last about 20 minutes of reading time, you can buy a paperback book and enjoy several days of reading time....when a comic costs $3.99....and a new paperback book costs $7.99....which is the better deal? Hell...I can buy some DVD's for about the same price as a comic and get at least 2 hours enjoyment out of it. When so many other forms of entertainment are actually dropping in price, or at least staying with the inflation rate, comics can't compete with their current pricing system.

YEAH....BUT HOW MANY COMICS ARE WORTH COLLECTING??
    I GAVE UP ON COLLECTING!
